A Readable KJV
There are many KJV projects out there and I have followed a few over the years. I was excited when the MEV was announced but that excitement was short lived. Nothing against the MEV really, it’s a great attempt but for serious KJV lovers when “heaven” from Genesis 1:1 is changed to “heavens” it’s a big no. I realized now that if I’ll be waiting for a KJV that I can be happy and satisfied with then I’ll be waiting forever, because they all have their pros and cons.
I have decided to start my own KJV project and do it myself. As of this writing, there’s another KJV project you should be on the look out for: The KJV Update Project.
I’ll be taking a different approach. Mine won’t be for printing but it will be a solid PDF that can adapt to desktop or any device (default is for iPad 12.9). I go with PDF instead of ePub and others because a PDF allows me to have the exact look and layout that I envisioned. A PDF has a few advantages over a printed Bible:
Since it’s a KJV, we know that a dictionary is needed for some of the words. This means if you’re reading it on your Desktop or Mobile device, most likely there’s a built-in dictionary right at your fingertip that comes with the Operating System. In addition to this, there will be a dictionary within the PDF that you can jump to back and forth with ease.
Regardless of where you are in the PDF, you can easily jump to any book or chapter with the icons at the top of the page. There’s also a built-in Bible Reading Plan that you can easily jump to back and forth to mark things off a list.
Since its final output is a PDF, it can easily be changed and updated. Want a WIDE MARGIN? No problem! Want more space to write or scribble? Easy! Don’t like the color? That can be changed. Want to personalize it? You can do that.
Since it’s a PDF, I can have multiple editions. One with the book of Job in poetry format, the other in regular format (for example).
I’m not aware of a KJV project that asked for inputs or suggestions from a community of KJV lovers before they hit the print button. In my case, I want to open to the community of KJV lovers for their suggestions, and also there are ways they can contribute to the project once the base is ready, to make it even better such as working on the dictionary, coming up with a list of false friends, making God’s spoken words in the OT blue (Jesus in the NT will be red), placing speech in quotation marks etc…
Most of you wouldn’t dare to highlight or write on your $100+ Schuyler Bible even if you wanted to. With this PDF? Absolutely no problem. This PDF is designed for purpose of READING and studying. Feel free to write and make a mess.
It’s disappointing that there isn’t a well designed and put together KJV in PDF. Not even one for sale. And if you want one, you’ll have to spend $50+ when it could be even less than that. Most of us don’t need fancy leather edition. Just give us a simple KJV with nice design and formatting… but there isn’t any. By God’s grace, I would like to change that. A readable PDF KJV that is available for lovers of God’s words, free with no restriction. I love God’s words, and I want one that I can memorize and read daily. So this is a labor of love. Here are a few samples of the brainstorming phase. I have tested it on an iPad 12.9. All I can say is Wow… I’ll say more in the next update.
